Motorway Advertising UK
Motorway billboards on the M5, M6 and M42 are sold through the major media estates and priced per site on request, so anyone quoting you a flat motorway rate is guessing. This page explains how the market actually works, what decides each quote, and the one motorway-audience format with a published price: the 35sqm Digital AdVan from £999 a day.
Updated August 2026. Published rates ex VAT; motorway sites quoted per site.

How Much Does Motorway Advertising Cost?
It depends on the site, and that is not a dodge. Motorway-visible billboards and digital screens are owned by the major media estates, and each location is priced individually on its traffic, position, direction of travel and demand. There is no motorway rate card anywhere in the market. What we can show you is how the pieces are sold, alongside the published rates that do exist.
| Format | Price | Sold as |
|---|---|---|
| Motorway-visible digital screens | Per site on request | Media estate owned, shares of screen time |
| Motorway-visible 48 and 96-sheets | Per site on request | Media estate owned, 2-week cycles |
| Roadside 48-sheet, regional cities | From £850 / 2 weeks | Published rate, 2-week cycles |
| Digital 48-sheet, regional cities | From £1,200 / 2 weeks | Published rate, 2-week cycles |
| 35sqm Digital AdVan, motorway-adjacent routes | From £999 / day | Published rate, bookable by the day |

Traffic and dwell
A site facing a slow-moving queue at a busy interchange is worth several times a free-flowing stretch of the same road. Estates price each location on counted traffic and how long drivers actually spend looking at it.
Position and direction
Southbound M5 holiday traffic is a different audience from northbound freight, and a screen before a junction works differently from one after it. The same field can hold two sites at two very different prices.
Demand and availability
Motorway-visible inventory is scarce because it needs private land with planning consent in sight of the carriageway. The best positions are tightly held, book out ahead, and are quoted to the campaign, not from a card.
M5 Billboard Advertising
The M5 is the holiday and freight spine of the South West, from the West Midlands past Worcester and Gloucester, through Bristol and Taunton, down to Exeter. The busiest stretches around Bristol carry an estimated 100,000-plus vehicles a day, and summer southbound traffic is one of the slowest moving audiences in the country, which is exactly what a roadside advertiser wants.
M5 billboard inventory is a mix of large-format digital screens and classic 48 and 96-sheet sites on private land visible from the carriageway, concentrated where traffic slows: junction approaches, the M4 interchange stretch and the retail corridors either side of Bristol. Every one is estate owned and priced per site. Send us the stretch you care about and we come back with what is actually available and what it actually costs.

M6 And M42 Billboards
The M6 is Britain's longest motorway, and its West Midlands stretch past Spaghetti Junction is one of the most heavily trafficked pieces of road in Europe. The M42 completes the box around Birmingham, serving Birmingham Airport, the NEC and the Solihull commuter belt. Between them they push enormous repeat audiences past a small number of sites, which is why M6 and M42 placements are among the most requested, and most tightly held, in the country.
As on the M5, everything here is estate owned and quoted per site. If the campaign is really about the West Midlands audience rather than the carriageway itself, city sites are published from £850 per 2 weeks for a 48-sheet on our Birmingham billboard page, and the M6 corridor north serves Manchester the same way.
Want The Motorway Audience Without The Wait?
Motorway sites are worth pursuing, but they take lead time and the good ones book out. The 35sqm Digital AdVan is the format we run when a brand wants that drive-time audience at a published price, this week. It works the A-roads and junction approaches motorway traffic funnels through, and the city approaches where the same drivers finish their journey, moving with the audience through the day.
From £999 a day with driver, route planning, GPS tracking and photo and video proof included, the same AdVan that has carried campaigns for Burger King and DPD. Price a route in seconds with the free mobile billboard cost calculator, no email required.
